Pastoral Care
The Pastoral Care Team's goal is to support individuals in the parish community who need assistance with some of the activities of daily living. The wish is to do this in a way that is respectful of each person's particular weaknesses and strengths, knowing the Pastoral care Team offers a service of support that is non-medical and non-professional.
The Team prays for the parish, especially those in special need, because of some crisis, illness, bereavement or other circumstance. The Team also provides non-medical assistance to the parishioner in many facets of his or her daily life, which may include daily needs such as laundry, letter writing, visits to the doctor, light meal preparation, telephoning, grocery shopping and taking care of pets. The Team also does home and hospital visitations.
St. Luke's Hospitality Center
St. Luke's Hospitality Center invites people affected by HIV/AIDS to form a loving, caring community in an atmosphere of respectful support for each other.
The parish of St. Luke and The Epiphany sees the Hospitality Center as a mutual ministry in which men and women are resources to one another. Today we may be bringing the gift of our vigor; on another day, our weakness. At all times, it is hoped that there will be a welcome and acceptance from the community we help to build, regardless of race, sex, sexual preference, national origin, disability, economic status, age or religion.
The Hospitality Center was the 1994 recipient of the National Episcopal AIDS Coalition Award for Outstanding Leadership and Ministry in Response to the HIV/AIDS Pandemic. Hospitality Center Programs Include:
Mondays
Men's Lunch and Socialization Program
Thursdays
Men's Support Groups
Multi-Faith Working Group
Support for professional caregivers and assessment of community needs.
St. Luke's Hospitality Center is supported by the people of The Church of St. Luke and The Epiphany, by a grant from the AIDS Fund (#38), by individual donor option gifts to the United Way (#10150), by in-kind donations from Dignity Philadelphia and through the generosity of individual donors and volunteers.
