Angel Tree
12/16/2009
St. Luke's Volunteers is partnering with the Salvation Army to sponsor a toy drive this year.
Each year thousands of children across the Delaware Valley go to bed on Christmas Eve not knowing if there will be any toys under the family Christmas tree in the morning. And each Christmas, The Salvation Army receives thousands of requests for gifts for children that might otherwise go without. This year, the unhealthy economy means that the Salvation Army of Greater Philadelphia is in special need of help in meeting these requests. St. Luke's is supporting the effort through sponsoring a Salvation Army Angel Giving Tree.
There are two ways to get involved. First, if you have a new, unwrapped toy or other gift for a child or teenager, or would like to fill a stocking with goodies, please feel free to drop off these unwrapped gifts in the big Salvation Army gift box in the Community Room.
Second, we have a number of special Angel tags, representing a needy child living in Greater Philadelphia. We are asking you to select an Angel tag (on display in the Narthex) and shop for the perfect gift for the child indicated on the tag. Keep the toy and the tag together! These new, unwrapped toys and gifts are then delivered to The Salvation Army for final delivery to the children on Christmas day.
The Salvation Army will be stopping by St. Luke's to collect the gifts on Wednesday, December 16th. We ask that you drop off any gifts in the Salvation Army box before that date. However, we will deliver to the Salvation Army any gifts dropped off after December 16th, in case anyone misses the deadline. Contact Jeff Boles for more information.
